Balloon Sinuplasty

Balloon Sinuplasty is a procedure that uses a balloon to dilate and open the sinus without cutting or removing tissue. This technology has given surgeons access to certain areas of the sinuses that were not easily accessible. This innovation has improved surgical techniques and outcomes for patients.

Balloon Sinuplasty is done under local or sedation anesthesia. This innovative procedure allows the surgeon to insert a balloon into narrow passages, inflate and widen the passage, deflate the balloon leaving a widened passage and allowing the mucus to drain. This procedure also eliminates the need for nasal or sinus packing, making recovery quite tolerable.

Recovery Instructions following Balloon Sinuplasty

Following surgery there is usually sinus drainage for a few days. Once removed, daily sinus rinses and the use of a humidifier is recommended for a short time to prevent and treat crusting. Air flow improves and mucus begins to drain normally. Sinus infections are reduced.
